A wandering thread
A painting from 2022 of the Northumberland coastline I visited last week. I can still hear the crack, spit and hiss coming off this one.

I received a collage and poster this week from celebrated artist, environmental activist and friend Hilary Jack. Hilary has two shows upcoming next week: a solo show in London, represented by Division of Labour at the Florence Trust, and a group show, called BorderLands at the Hay Festival. She’s a busy woman!
The exhibition at Jupiter Artland explores how energy systems shape culture, land and belief. I think this quote by Virginia Woolf on the back of the poster resonates nicely:
Life is strung together by a wandering thread that lightly joins one thing to another.
Artwork is hopefully coming together for Inkling 02. I plan to be exposing screens, trimming paper, registering and printing first layers as this newsletter drops.
Rudolph Valentino is my muse.
Women are not in love with me but with the picture of me on the screen. I am the canvas upon which they paint their dreams.
Went for a walk then drew the memory of it.

The Black Friar is a Grade II listed Arts and Crafts pub in London and old haunt of mine. It was saved from demolition in the 60s by a campaign spearheaded by Sir John Betjeman – cosy inside, but we could all just about squeeze in I think.

The fire on the beach painting is beautiful.
I always love your stacks and am so warmed by your beautiful painting of the fire on that Northumberland beach. Heaven.
