Collector's edition
Delving into the archive once again, with a painting from 2019 – the first abstract painting I ever made. I may like it better than some of my recent works, which is always a strange feeling – proving the point that progress can be cyclical.
There’s something about the idea of collecting that appeals to me. Growing up, I had a small national doll collection and a rubber (eraser!) collection. But nothing of any significance since then.
It occurred to me recently that I’d like to start a new collection. And today, I decided it will be egg cups.
We don’t eat hard-boiled eggs around here, so a rummage through the kitchen cupboards only turned out three. But what a handsome little trio to start things off.
A recent charity shop purchase. One of my favourite things about Miró was that he never stood still for long and had a knack for what the art critics dubbed Mirómorphosis.
I understood the dangers of success and felt that, rather than dully exploiting it, I must launch into new ventures…I feel a great desire to put off those who believe in me.
He famously declared: “I want to assassinate painting” and then launched himself into a rapid-fire exploration of anti-painting: collage, assemblage, prints and wood relief.

This incredible tapestry was displayed in the South Tower of the World Trade Center from 1974 until it was destroyed in the 9/11 attack.
Inkling 2
I’ve been frantically printmaking this week and finally have 40 hand-finished screen-prints all ready to send out. There should be a few spares this time round, so let me know if you’d like to be added to my mailing list. The posters are free – I just ask people to send me something in response, if they’re so inclined. Then, six months later, I create a new print in response to that, and on it goes. No idea where I’m going with any of this yet, but getting back to analogue feels good.
